Author Guidelines for Research

Before preparing and submitting your manuscript, please note that authors are not advised to withdraw manuscripts that have already been submitted after the publication process (review, editing, layout, etc.). During this process, JIOK : Jurnal Ilmu Olahraga dan Kesehatan has devoted valuable resources in addition to the time spent on the process.

JIOK : Jurnal Ilmu Olahraga dan Kesehatan accepts the following types of papers:

  1. Research Articles up to 5000 words, including references, notes, and image captions, or 5 printed pages) are expected to present significant progress. Research Articles include an abstract, introduction, up to six figures or tables, sections with brief subheadings, and more than 20 references. Materials and Methods should typically be included in supplementary material, which should also include information necessary to support the paper's conclusions.
  2. Reports (up to 5000 words including references, notes, and image captions or 3 printed pages) present important new research results that have broad significance. Reports should include an abstract, an introductory paragraph, a maximum of four images or tables, and approximately 30 references. Materials and Methods are usually included in supplementary material, which should also include information necessary to support the conclusions of the paper.
  3. Reviews (maximum 3500 words including references, notes, and captions) describe significant new developments in an interdisciplinary manner and highlight future directions. Reviews include an abstract, an introduction outlining the main theme, brief subheadings, and a summary of important unanswered questions. A maximum of 40 references is recommended. Most Reviews are requested by the editor, but unsolicited submissions may also be considered.

 Author Guidelines JIOK : Jurnal Ilmu Olahraga dan Kesehatan since 2025

Introduction

JIOK : Jurnal Ilmu Olahraga dan Kesehatan, a national scientific journal, is open to innovation, creativity, and novelty. JJIOK : Jurnal Ilmu Olahraga dan Kesehatan is a peer-reviewed journal published by the Sports Science Study Program at Muhammadiyah University Purwokerto. The purpose of this journal is to facilitate the publication of scientific research results in Indonesia and to contribute to improving the quality and quantity of research for academics and researchers. Since 2025, JIOK : Jurnal Ilmu Olahraga dan Kesehatan has been published twice a year, in January and July. This publication contains research results and critical analysis studies in the fields of:

  1. Research on sports physiology and its impact on health.
  2. Studies on physical and mental fitness in the context of sports.
  3. Application of sports science in the development of public health programs.
  4. Sports technology and innovation in sports equipment.
  5. Management and organization in the world of sports.
  6. Application of sports rehabilitation.
  7. Development and evaluation of learning methods in sports education.
  8. Application of nutrition and supplementation for athletes.

General Guidelines for Manuscripts

The general guidelines for manuscripts are as follows :

The manuscript is an authentic research result that has not been published in print media or other publishers.

  1. The manuscript is written in English according to writing standards.
  2. The manuscript text is written in accordance with the format of this article. Articles are written on A4 paper (210x297 mm), with the following margins: left 40 mm, right 30 mm, bottom 30 mm, and top 30 mm, Arial font, 12pt font size, and 1.5 line spacing.
  3. The manuscript is typed using Microsoft Word on A4 paper, approximately 3,000-5,000 words, including images, tables, and references.
  4. The manuscript does not contain any elements of plagiarism. The editorial board will immediately reject texts that are indicated as plagiarism. We use plagiarism software to check your manuscript.
  5. The manuscript consists of five main sections: Introduction; Methods; Results; Discussion; Conclusions and Suggestions; References.
  6. The article title should be as concise as possible and represent the content of the manuscript;
  7. The author's name is written under the title, followed by the author's affiliation and email address;
  8. The abstract is written in Indonesian and English. The abstract should not exceed 200 words and should contain a narrative of the objectives/goals, methods, and findings of the research/writing;
  9. Keywords: important, specific, or representative words or phrases for the article, consisting of 3-6 words;
  10. Manuscripts must be written in accordance with the following format;

Manuscript Writing Guidelines

Manuscript title : The title must be informative and written concisely and clearly. The title should not be open to multiple interpretations. The title must be on target and relevant to the issue being discussed. The opening words should be capitalized and symmetrical. The article title should not contain unusual abbreviations. The main idea should be written first, followed by an explanation. The article title must be written in a maximum of twenty words, in 12pt font, bold, and typed in the center.

Author and Authorship Details : All contributor names must be listed, and their names must be arranged in the correct order for publication. Only the corresponding author may provide a valid email address. The full name of each author must be listed in the correct format for publication, including or excluding middle names or initials as necessary. The affiliation of each contributing author must match the author's name. The maximum number of authors is five.

The criteria for authorship are as follows : Substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work; or acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; Drafting the work or critically revising it for important intellectual content; Final approval of the version to be published; Approval to be responsible for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are investigated and resolved appropriately.

Abstract : The abstract should be written in a maximum of 200 words and followed by three to five keywords arranged alphabetically. The abstract should contain the research objectives, methods, results, conclusions, and limitations (optional). Authors should include appropriate and concise keywords that summarize the main topics of the paper (3-6 phrases). The abstract should be written in single spacing and 11-point Palatino Linotype font.

Introduction : The introduction should contain (in sequential order) the general background and literature review (state of the art) as the basis for new research questions, new scientific article statements, main research problems, and hypotheses. At the end of the introduction, the purpose of writing the article must be stated. They must be represented in the literature review to demonstrate the novelty of the scientific article.

Methods: The methods section explains how the research was conducted, including the research design, data collection, research instruments, and methods of analysis. This section should be narrative.

Results and Discussion : Write the results in a logical order. Results with important findings should be presented first. When presenting results in tables or figures, do not repeat all the content in the text. Present only a summary of the text. Explain only the new and important aspects of this research. Do not repeat all the information from the results section or any other section above. Present the limitations of the research. Write down new or unresolved issues for further research. This section consists of information about what/how the data presented was generated; there should be no raw data in the article. The data generated is presented in tables or figures with explanations of the results/findings of this research. This section also needs to discuss the relationship between the findings and the basic concepts or hypotheses made previously. The author must also state whether there are arguments related to other works by other researchers that are necessary. Write down the implications made by these works in relation to theory or application.

Conclusion : This section is the final part that contains conclusions, limitations, and recommendations. Conclusions are answers to research hypotheses or questions, research objectives, and research findings. Conclusions should not merely repeat the results and discussion. The conclusion should be a summary of the research results as expected by the author in the research objectives or hypotheses. The limitations and recommendations of the research include shortcomings in the research and suggestions for further research ideas.

Acknowledgments : Express gratitude to those who supported this research (sponsors and respondents). Family members and advisors are not allowed in this section.

References : All references used in the article must be listed in this section. In this section, all references used must come from primary sources (scientific journals and at least 80% of all references) published in the last ten years. If the author cites their own articles in the article, a maximum of 2 articles is expected.

Citation and Reference Guidelines

All data or quotations presented in the article that are taken from other authors' articles must include the reference source. References must use reference management applications such as Mendeley, End Note, or Zotero. The writing format used in the SPORTIF Journal: Journal of Learning Research follows the format applied by the 6th Edition of the APA (American Psychological Association). Example:

Image :

All images (charts, diagrams, line drawings, web pages/screenshots, and photographs) must be submitted in electronic form. All images must be of high quality, legible, and numbered sequentially with Arabic numerals. Images may be in color for easy display in an online database. Images created in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, or MS Excel must be included in their original format. Electronic images created in other applications must be copied from the source software and pasted into the MS Word template document. Photos must be inserted in the main body of the article and be of high quality.

Table

Tables should be typed and included in the main body of the article. Tables should be inserted in the text as close as possible to the point of reference. Ensure that superscripts or asterisks are displayed next to the relevant items and that appropriate explanations are provided as footnotes for tables, figures, or plates.

Online Manuscript Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts must be submitted through one of two systems (the second procedure is preferred):

  1. Documents must be submitted through the Online Submission System on the JIOK e-journal portal: Journal of Sports Science and Health.
  2. First, authors must register as authors or reviewers (check the role as author or reviewer) in the “Register” column.
  3. After registration is complete, log in as an author, then click “New Submission”. The article submission process consists of five stages, namely: (1). Start, (2). Upload Submission, (3). Enter Metadata, (4). Upload Additional Files, (5). Confirm.
  4. In the “Start” column, select the Journal Section (Volume and Edition to be published), check all the checklists.
  5. In the “Upload Submission” column, upload the manuscript file in MSWord format in this column.
  6. In the “Enter Metadata” column, fill in all author and affiliation data, including Journal Title, Abstract, Keywords, and References. In the “Upload Additional Files” column, authors are allowed to upload additional files, statements, or other files.
  7. In the “Confirmation” column, if the data you have entered is correct, click “Submit Application”.
