Abstract

Background :  Dribbling is one of the fundamental skills in soccer and is strongly influenced by various physical components, including balance and agility. Players who possess good balance and agility are generally more capable of maintaining ball control and performing quick directional changes during play. However, empirical evidence is needed to determine how strongly these two components contribute to dribbling performance, particularly in adolescent soccer players undergoing structured training at soccer schools.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between balance and agility with dribbling skills in 14–15-year-old participants of the Citra Mandiri Arjosari Soccer School (SSB)

Methods: This study employed a quantitative correlational research design. The sample consisted of 30 participants aged 14–15 years, selected using a total sampling technique. Data collection involved three test instruments: the Bass Test to measure balance, the Hexagonal Obstacle Test to measure agility, and the Soccer Dribble Test to measure dribbling skills. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 26, including Pearson correlation tests, t-tests, and calculation of the coefficient of determination (R²). Prerequisite tests such as normality, homogeneity, and linearity analyses were also performed to ensure the validity of the correlational analysis.

Results : The results show that balance has a significant relationship with dribbling skills, indicated by a significance value of 0.040, which is smaller than α = 0.05. Agility also shows a significant relationship with dribbling skills, with a significance value of 0.000 < α = 0.05. Furthermore, the simultaneous analysis reveals that balance and agility together significantly influence dribbling skills, as shown by a combined significance value of 0.000 < α = 0.05. These findings indicate that both physical components contribute meaningfully to players’ dribbling performance.

Conclusion : The study concludes that both balance and agility have significant individual and simultaneous relationships with dribbling skills in 14–15-year-old participants of the Citra Mandiri Arjosari SSB. The better the balance and agility possessed by the players, the better their dribbling performance is likely to be.
