Abstract

History learning at SMK Wiworotomo Purwokerto during the new normal era utilizes local history as a medium of instruction. The inclusion of local history is important so that students do not forget the abundance of historical events in their region. Studying local history enables students to understand the values of heroism, nationalism, patriotism, and local wisdom. This research aims to examine the preparation of teachers in teaching local history to students, how teachers implement local history learning during the new normal era, and what strategies teachers use to optimize students’ understanding of local history. This study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques include non-participant observation, interviews, and document analysis. The subjects in this study include the vice principal, history teachers, and tenth-grade students at SMK Wiworotomo Purwokerto. Data sources consist of informants, observations of history learning activities, and analysis of instructional documents. The researcher used data triangulation. The sampling technique used is random sampling. Data analysis follows an interactive model: data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show: (1) In preparing lessons, teachers prepare lesson plans (RPP), determine basic competencies (KD), and design methods and media. (2) Teachers implement local history learning in the new normal era by assigning students to visit local historical sites according to the material being taught. (3) With these strategies, local history learning becomes more optimal. In the implementation of local history learning at SMK Wiworotomo Purwokerto, teachers are able to optimize the process by effectively connecting it with local historical content, making the learning process more engaging. Students at SMK Wiworotomo Purwokerto enjoy local history learning, as it not only increases their knowledge but also enhances their curiosity about local history.
